Birefringence

Splitting a light wave into two unequally reflected waves resulting in a rainbow effect.

Crystal Touch

Ocular's line of projected capacitive touch panels.

Gesturing

In addition to sensing the location of a single finger, the touch panel can also detect if a two finger zoom/pinch/rotate is in progress. The controller only reports the location of the first finger but can detect if a two finger zoom/pinch/rotate is in progress.

Low-Viz ITO

A unique Ocular design that virtually eliminates the visible Indium Tin Oxide traces on touch panels.

Optical Bonding

A manufacturing technique for eliminating the air gap between displays, cover lens and touch panels, improving visibility and durability. Ocular has licensed the use of DuPont™ Vertak® direct bonding display technology.

Projected Capacitive (PCAP)

A touch panel technology that determines touch location by sensing changes in electric field across the panel, caused by finger proximity. This contrasts with resistive touch technology, which utilizes physical pressure on the panel surface. Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touch panels are more reliable and result in superior optical clarity than resistive touch panels.

Single Touch

Only one location, i.e. finger, can be identified by the controller. If more than one finger is placed on a single touch panel, the controller will accept only one touch point: the midpoint between the two fingers.

Touch Screen

User interface that is part of a full touch display assembly; includes a TFT and touch panel/sensor as part of the stack-up.

Touch Panel

A standalone touch sensor.

Transmissivity/Transmittance

The percentage of visible light that passes through glass.

TRUE Multi-Touch

The controller can report the location of more than one finger simultaneously and create separate demands for each touch point. Ocular’s TRUE Multi-Touch PCAP touch panels can report up to 16 different touch points simultaneously.
